There are 7 types of map locations present:

Icon/Name Description style Info
Unknown1
Unknown Room
Often events, but can be everything but a Rest Site. If you have the Juzu Bracelet, you will always encounter an event. Without, you are progressively more likely to encounter an enemy. (The chances increase by 10%, starting at 10%.) The enemy encounters can be harder encounters than ones in marked nodes.
Shop1
Shop
Buy cards, relics, potions or remove a card from your deck-- with your gold, of course.
Chest1
Chest
A room with a treasure chest inside. These are not boss chests, but will contain relics and gold, typically only one relic per chest unless you have the Matryoshka active.

There is always at least one Treasure Room in the middle of each act.

Rest1
Rest
Here, you have two options at default: resting, and smithing. Resting will heal you 30% of your max HP (+15 with Regal Pillow), whereas smithing will allow you to upgrade a card. The Shovel, Peace Pipe, and Girya unlock additional options, to a maximum of four total options available. You can only have two of the three interface-changing relics.

There is always a Rest Site before the boss.

Enemy1
Enemy
A basic encounter. Defeating the enemy nets you a choice of one of three cards, some gold, and 40% chance (100% with the White Beast Statue) of obtaining a potion.
Elite1
Elite
A challenging encounter. Defeating the enemy nets you a choice of one of three cards, with an increased chance of rare and uncommon cards, more gold, a relic, and a 40% (100% with the White Beast Statue) chance of obtaining a potion.
Boss
BOSSFIGHT The end of an Act. All paths on the map lead here. Defeating the boss allows you to proceed to the next Act, or if you are in Act 3, you will be able to proceed to the Heart.

After defeating the bosses of Act 1 or 2, you will be provided with a choice of one of three rare cards, gold, and a 40% chance (100% with the White Beast Statue) of obtaining a potion. In the following screen, you will be able to pick one of three boss relics.
